BIRTH WORKS DOULA SERVICES are designed to help pregnant women, their partners, and families plan for their ideal birth experience.  Whether you are a first time mother or a seasoned veteran, your BIRTH WORKS DOULA will provide you with thorough education and support to help you attain your goals for labor, delivery, and postpartum.

BIRTH WORKS has 8 certified doulas for you to choose from.  You will be able to choose the doula that is right for you and be assured that she will always have appropriate back-up from one or more of her colleagues whenever needed.

Here are some of the things your doula can help you with:

• She will help educate you about the options you have in choosing a caring physician.
• She will assist you in creating the perfect birth plan for you.
• She will help you find evidence-based answers for any questions you may have, at any time throughout pregnancy and the birth process.
• She can offer you and your partner many strategies for coping with labor so that you will stay focused, unafraid and in control of your choices.
• She will help you decide if you want her to come to your home in early labor, or meet you at the hospital when you go into labor.  She will also help you know when is a good time to go to the hospital.
• She will be available to you by phone 24/7 throughout your pregnancy, and will be with you throughout your labor and delivery, as well as close at hand for your postpartum period.
• Her job is to empower you and your partner with personal answers that fit your individual needs, so that you can make well-informed decisions about your care.
• She will be your advocate and liaison during labor and delivery, helping the medical team understand your desires, and helping you understand the process of birth.
• Most women who choose a doula want a natural birth, and doulas are specially trained to help you have the best chance of getting a natural birth.  But some women want or need medical pain relief or other interventions. They may choose to have a doula to help support their decisions and offer emotional guidance during a birth with more interventions.  BIRTH WORKS DOULAS can help you, no matter what your birth plan involves.
• The BIRTH WORKS DOULAS’ plan of care extends several months into your newborn’s life and includes teaching you how to calm your baby, helping you with nursing, fatigue, and many other postpartum issues.
